Course Summary
Approvals
This course is intended for massage therapists, but can be taken for non-CE credit by anyone needing to complete a Texas HHS-approved human trafficking course for professional license renewal with the TDLR.
Course approval by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) began June 3rd, 2021. To verify approval, here is our Texas HHSC approval letter.
Advanced Massage Techniques, Inc is also an approved continuing education provider by the Texas Massage Board (Number CE2104). Texas massage therapists can earn 1 hour of continuing education for license renewal by completing this course. Or this course can be taken in our 12-hour Texas Massage CE package.
Human Trafficking in Texas
Texas ranks second in the United States for human trafficking cases reported. In order to combat this sobering statistic, beginning September 1, 2020, certain licensed Texas health care practitioners must complete an approved human trafficking course in order to renew their license. This includes Texas licensed massage therapists. For a complete list of the professions licensed under the TDLR, click here.
According to the TDLR, 68,345 licensees are required to complete an approved human trafficking prevention training prior to their license renewal. The more professionals that are able to recognize and report human trafficking, the better our chances of disrupting and preventing this crime, as well as helping victims and survivors.
Massage therapists are truly in a unique position to recognize human trafficking. Our profession has often been used as a front by human trafficking criminals and many massage therapists are aware of this crime that has been hiding in plain sight for years.
In this course, you will learn how to recognize signs of human trafficking in legal and illegal massage establishments, your massage clinic, or anywhere out in public and report suspected trafficking to the proper channels/authorities.
Human Trafficking Course FAQ
When does the required continuing education course need to be completed?
Beginning September 1, 2020, an HHSC-approved human trafficking course needs to be completed before renewing your Texas massage license.
Will this course count towards my Texas massage license continuing education renewal?
The HSSC FAQ states a course will count towards your license renewal hours “if the human trafficking prevention training course is approved by HHSC and it qualifies under your profession’s CE requirements.”
The Texas Massage Board does not approve individual continuing education courses, but does approve continuing education providers. Advanced Massage Techniques is an approved provider for the Texas Massage Therapy Board (CE2104).
Will the human trafficking course be a requirement for each renewal cycle?
At this time, it appears a human trafficking course will be required for each license renewal.
I am moving to Texas and applying for a license. Is this course required for applications?
This course is only required for license renewals at this time.

Joni K. (verified owner) –
This is a well written, informative class. It was easy to complete, had valuable information and verified or answered many questions about Human Trafficking and Human Smuggling. With the prevalence of trafficking within a 20 mile radius, I feel better equipped in knowing how to prevent and identify this terrible travesty.
Marie R. (verified owner) –
I have gotten notices a few years back, from some therapists about this, but not to this extent that I read in this course. Good information.

Didn’t realize all this was going on. Good training, hope I can help someone some day.
